Have you ever felt self-righteous because you are a Christian? Standing on the moral high ground, judging or even contemptuous of what other people do, and seeing others as unclean may be the greatest temptation for Christians. The observation is a bit embarrassing. I usually find that people who do not know Jesus behave more humbly, patiently, and virtuously than so-called Christians like me. I am not sure if it is because of our understanding of the merciful nature of the Lord that we manipulate it unconsciously. But when I notice that some kids in school leave their faith gradually, I wonder if our arrogance gives them bad testimony. Do we let them see only the moral superiority of the Pharisees but not the humility of Jesus? “Even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it. They demonstrate that God’s law is written in their hearts, for their own conscience and thoughts either accuse them or tell them they are doing right.” - Romans 2:14-15. Spiritual superiority was brought from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; Humility, our God-given internal radar to help us know right from wrong.
