After the pandemic, the social atmosphere has not immediately improved. Depressive mood troubles people of different ages. How can we help others who are struggling with the depressive mood? We usually think that saying something positive or leading them to places where people can relax and have fun can change their depressive mood, but it often has the opposite effect. The Bible has some very heart-warming teachings. “Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. -Romans 12:15.” But “Singing cheerful songs to a person with a heavy heart is like taking someone’s coat in cold weather or pouring vinegar in a wound. -Proverbs 25:20.” Very often, our quiet companion has already represented our love and encouragement to people overwhelmed by their depressive mood. Telling them to ‘snap out of it’ or minimizing their pain by false cheeriness will just make them feel worse. Certainly, the best way to help those down is to model Christ’s gentle, caring love. Jesus declared himself, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.-Matthew 11:28.” Humans are complicated creatures, but why don’t we seek help from our creator directly when we are in need?
