We often struggle with sinful temptation due to our inherent nature. Flip through a newspaper, and you may find an ambitious business leader faced a moral crossroads when a lucrative deal demanded dishonesty. A young lawyer on another page, eager for acclaim, faced a dilemma when a wealthy client demanded deceit. Torn between ambition and integrity, she emerged with her resolve but sold her dignity. Jesus stressed the weakness of our flesh when it comes to resisting temptation. He told his disciples, “Watch and pray so you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.-Matthew 26:41.” In the face of temptation, relying solely on our willpower and strength often leads to failure. Our human nature is flawed and vulnerable to the lure of sin. Yet, He understands our weaknesses and is ready to help us. “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.-1 Corinthians 10:13.” His faithfulness does not allow us to be overwhelmed by temptation. He will provide a way for us to endure the temptation. Next time, when we face the temptation to lie or cheat in a difficult situation, we can turn to the Lord in prayer and seek His guidance instead of relying on our flawed nature. By surrendering to His strength and wisdom, we can resist temptation and choose the path of righteousness.
