“Isn’t it wiser for a teacher to make suggestions and allow the kids to think out the conclusion?” It is the first principle of empowerment in leadership. Thousand of teachers spend a lifetime teaching without seeing things from the kids’ angle. They are tired and discouraged in their lesson teaching, for they do not realize that neither the kids nor I like to be taught. We like to feel that we are learning but not being taught. According to the bible discourse, this is the primitive sin of human beings. So it is, in other words, a general pattern of human nature. Why don’t we use such nature well in learning and teaching? As it is said: “The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out. – Proverbs 20:4.” Teachers in the past were experts in giving solutions, but today they tend to be professional in questioning that help our kids to draw their insight out.
