I once believed that justice could be revealed through earnest and rational debate. However, in the post-modern era, I gradually find that debate is more like “a resounding gong and a clanging cymbal”. People with different backgrounds could have different perspectives of the truth. Different races, generations, genders, or even daily routines could have different interpretations of justice. The most ironic, even if people refer to the same Bible context, there can still be different views of justice.

In the 2nd Book of Corinthians, 13:8: “We cannot oppose the truth, but must always stand for the truth.” The claim seems powerful, but the reality is that we all stand for our unique truth. “The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice. Proverbs 12:15”

I seldom see rational debate can derive real justice. It instead results in either compromise or repeating viewpoints in endless loops. If you are still haggling about little things, it may be time to let go and try to listen first.
