We do well under the spotlight. But I am sure that we all behave differently when we are unseen. It is an expression of our sinful nature. What happens when there is no accountability? People without supervision lean toward sin that finally hurts us and others and pulls us away from God. “In those days, Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes. – (Judges 17:6)” As for me, the most important heritage the renowned evangelist, Billy Graham, left us is not his teaching on the stage but the four principles in the Modesto Manifesto of his evangelistic organization.
1. Never exaggerate organization successes
2. Pay attention to avoid shady use of money
3. Pay special attention to avoid sexual immorality
4. Never condemn similar others
In my experience, the companionship with a godly person can help us to be accountable. “The godly offer good counsel; they teach right from wrong – (Psalm 37:30).” For me, the godly person is my wife.
