STEM Racing Hong Kong Development Class 2025

On May 24, six of our Form 4 students proudly represented our school in the STEM Racing Hong Kong Development Class 2025 competition, held at United Christian College (Kowloon East). Their hard work and creativity earned them the prestigious Best Display Award. Below are highlights of their pit display and reflections on their experience in the competition.

4A Hugo Qian
Participating in the STEM Racing Hong Kong Development Class Competition was an exhilarating and enriching experience. As the project manager, I combined leadership, organization, and teamwork to overcome challenges and guide our team to success. Despite setbacks—such as technical glitches, time constraints, and design flaws—each problem taught us resilience and adaptability. The thrill of seeing our creation race on the track after troubleshooting was immensely rewarding.
Most importantly, I learned that failure is a powerful teacher. Mistakes exposed weaknesses in our planning and execution, motivating us to refine our strategies. This competition wasn’t just about speed; it was about innovation, collaboration, and growth.

4A Stephen Kong
I am the Sponsorship and Marketing Manager of the Ferocious team. After the whole-day competition, I learned a lot from it. First of all, teamwork is really important. We had to set up the pit display together, and during the process, we needed to assign tasks to everyone.
That’s the reason why we won the Best Display Award. Also, as the team’s F1 driver, I had to race the car against other teams. It was nerve-wracking and not an easy job because I didn’t want to lose in the part that I was responsible for. Fortunately, we achieved a good result, and I am thankful to my teammates—they trusted me and gave me courage. So, thank you! Last but not least, let’s keep going and continue chasing our ultimate goals.

4A Janet Chiu
I was very happy and surprised by the competition because we won the award for Best Pit Display. After the competition, I learned valuable communication skills and the art of working with others. Although our roles and responsibilities were different, we worked together and collaborated by distributing materials and bringing them to the competition venue. It would have been hard for me to carry all the foam boards and stationery by myself if we hadn’t helped each other. Therefore, I now understand the importance of communication and teamwork.
It was a memorable experience for me because we won prizes and also learned something extra about physics and racing. For example, I learned that reducing air resistance can make a car go faster.

4A Sophie Hui
I am very excited to participate in the STEM Racing Hong Kong Development Class Competition with my team. My position is Design Engineer, and I am responsible for designing the race car for this competition. Throughout this process, I not only get to apply theoretical knowledge in practice but also work closely with my team to overcome challenges together. Through this race, my teammates and I are learning to embrace teamwork and gain a deeper understanding of physics principles and engineering concepts. This will be an unforgettable experience, and I look forward to achieving great results with everyone in the professional class.

4A Mico Chu
After this competition, the most valuable thing I learned is teamwork. At first, many tasks weren’t done even a week before the competition. We were worried about whether we could submit everything in time, such as the portfolios. However, in the end, we managed to complete and submit everything by working together as a team.
In the beginning, we faced many conflicts regarding the design of the car, pit display, and team uniform. However, we managed to resolve these issues by calming down and having open conversations. We were thrilled to win an award. This means a lot to us because it shows that we put our blood, sweat, and tears into this entire competition.

4C Jayden Lam
Joining the STEM Racing competition was an unforgettable experience for me! At first, I felt a bit nervous because everything was so new, but soon, I started to really enjoy it while working with my teammates.
Throughout this competition, I learned a lot about communication, problem-solving, and project management. There were challenges along the way, but we didn’t complain. Instead, we overcame them together, which made us stronger as a team. Seeing our hard work earn us a reward in this competition filled me with satisfaction and pride in the team.
This experience inspired me to keep learning and trying new things. I’m truly grateful for the friendships and skills I gained along the way. I will never forget this!

Harvard Book Prize Award 2025

The Harvard Prize Book is awarded to outstanding Hong Kong secondary students who have achieved academic excellence, possess exceptional personal qualities, and have made a significant contribution to their school or community. This year, our S6 student-librarians achieve this honour, it is the first time of our students receive such an award, the reflections of the awardees as follow:

6A Ka Ki Kwok
Participating in the Harvard Book Prize Award 2025 has been an enriching experience. I deeply appreciated the focus on both academic achievement and personal insight.

Receiving this award has inspired me to pursue my academic goals with renewed passion. The book “Science and Cooking” resonated with me, highlighting the connections between science, creativity, and food. It ignited my curiosity and reinforced the idea that inquiry drives innovation.

Overall, this program has connected me with like-minded peers and deepened my appreciation for literature. I encourage anyone interested in expanding their horizons to consider this incredible opportunity.

6A Heidi Ng
I am deeply honored to receive the Harvard Prize Book this year. This award not only recognizes academic achievements but also acknowledges students’ contributions to their school and community. It encourages me to pursue further education and continue helping those in need. Additionally, it inspires me to explore various extracurricular activities that promote a well-rounded perspective. I am truly grateful for this opportunity.

6E Gordon Hung
First and foremost, I would like to sincerely thank our teacher Kaman Li for her recommendation, as well as the principal for gracing us with his presence at the award ceremony. Receiving the Harvard Book Award is a tremendous honor—it is both an encouragement and an affirmation of my love for reading.

Ever since primary school, I have loved reading books, but I often forgot what I had read and had to start over, as if I were running in circles. That changed when I came across “*Atomic Habits”*, a book that completely transformed my attitude and approach toward learning. It taught me that small, consistent efforts, compounded over time, can lead to remarkable change. From then on, I cultivated a daily reading habit—taking notes on key ideas and my own reflections, then revisiting them regularly. Applying this method to my studies not only improved my efficiency and retention but also allowed me to engage more fully in extracurricular activities. It turns out, there really is a *method* to learning!

This award has further convinced me that reading is one of life’s most important pursuits. It not only expands our knowledge but also fosters personal growth. Through reading, I have learned perseverance and deeper thinking.

Looking ahead, I hope to maintain my reading habit. I plan to study business administration in college to explore the world of commerce. At the same time, I’d like to encourage my peers to read more. No matter the genre, every book holds the potential to inspire. Reading may not provide immediate answers, but it quietly accompanies you on your life journey, helping you become the best version of yourself.

4C LAM CHING FEI
Today, I participated in a community service activity, delivering vegetables personally grown by my classmates to people in need, together with my classmates and volunteers. When I handed the fresh vegetables to them and saw the joyful smiles on their faces, I deeply realized that even my small efforts could directly bring happiness to others.

This experience made me reflect that many people in society silently endure life’s pressures and truly cherish even the simplest help. Compared to them, I am actually more fortunate and should learn to be more grateful and appreciative.

I hope to continue participating in such volunteer activities in the future, as every act of giving not only helps others but also enriches and gives meaning to my own life. It is really awarding!!

4C CHAN YUET YIN
This was my first time participating in a community service activity delivering vegetables, and it gave me a deep understanding of the true meaning of helping others. At first, I felt a bit nervous because I wasn’t sure how to interact with people experiencing homelessness and families in need-I was worried I might not fully understand their situations. But when they came to collect the vegetables, they were all very polite and friendly, sincerely thanking us. In fact, they were even more kind than I had imagined; even when they were in a hurry, they patiently listened to our introductions and were happy to share bits of their lives with us.

This experience made me reflect that everyone in society has their own stories and struggles. They didn’t choose a difficult life-circumstances forced them into it. We should approach them with empathy and respect, rather than with prejudice. Taking part in community service not only helps those in need, but also teaches me to be grateful for what I have and reminds me to care more about the people around me.

I hope to continue participating in more community service in the future, bringing care and warmth to more people in need, and growing into a more empathetic and responsible person through these experiences

4B WANG HO KWAN
During this event, I tried to grow lettuce, cabbage and kale. I watched them grow from sprouts in a month and a half. I learned how to use technology to grow vegetables and speed up their growth. In addition , I learned how to explain the purpose vividly to others and sell products to others.

What impressed me most was that we donated part of the harvest to some families in need. Seeing their happy smiles made me feel very meaningful. It turns out that learning can also contribute to others and society.

Young Writers’ Awards 2025

This year, our students participated in the Young Writers’ Awards 2025 English Poetry Division. Our student, Ng Chun Yin, is shortlisted for the poetry group 4, his work is published in the official anthology. The theme of this year is “New Tales of China’s Dinosaurs”, the following is his reflection of joining this event:

3C Anson Ng
I am delighted that my entry for Poetry Group 4 of Hong Kong Young Writers Awards 2025 has been shortlisted. The theme for this year, New Tales of China’s Dinosaurs, is particularly interesting to me as prehistoric animals are one of my favorite reading topics. I seldom write poetry, and this is the first time for me to participate in such a writing competition. It is amazing to get the satisfactory result from more than two thousand entries of the competition. This valuable experience inspired me to take challenges in the future.
